Remembering Sashi
Our exceptionally beautiful, smart, agile, powerful and most of all loving Tibetan Terrier, Sashi, has now moved on to her next part of her journey. Almost 18 amazing years of her precious presence and now she is physically gone but we feel her with us everywhere.
We knew one day we would have to let you go Sashi and we knew we would never be ready. Every minute, every hour, every day you are in our hearts and thoughts. Our World has lost a very special soul and we will treasure our memories as we treasured each day we had with you. All of the love and happiness you gave us unconditionally… well you did have your demands but you were so tenderly loving in your ability to get us to do your bidding. You knew who was in charge and we loved the way you reminded us! Your overwhelmingly affectionate greeting at the door when we came home, even if only away for a very brief time, was so appreciated and now so unbelievably missed. Coming home is not the same and never will be without you here.
Sashi's Story
Sashi: October 27, 2008 to July 20, 2026
AKA: “Garda Girl”, “My Assistant”, “Princess”, “Fifi”, “Little Girl”, and “Sashita”
Meaning: “The World” (Protector; defender; one who brings happiness.)
Back in 2008 Jeanne’s Mom was living with us and eventually passed away. Our oldest son Jordan suggested that we should once again have a dog join our family. The idea was very appealing to us but we had a number of special concerns at the time so we consulted with my cousin Judy who just happened to be both a dog lover and a very knowledgeable dog trainer. After some research she got back to us and recommended that we think about getting a Tibetan Terrier and even suggested a breeder in our neck of the woods. She sent us a couple of books about various dog breeds. After some study and discussion, we contacted the breeder and started the process. Early in the Spring of 2009 the breeder delivered our beautiful Sashi to us and the rest is history.
Very quickly after Sashi’s arrival we began to see and feel many things about her that would remind us of Jeanne’s mom. After a couple of months, we received Sashi’s official AKA papers in the mail from the breeder and, “Wait for It”, ….. Sashi was born on the very same day that Jeanne’s mom passed away, October 27, 2008! It simply was meant to be.
Sashi attended obedience training class and graduated top in her class. Sashi won her 1st place award by giving the trainer a “High Five”. She then went on to Agility classes in which she made it very clear that she certainly had the ability but there was no way she would be that restricted. Sashi would make her own path in so many ways.
Sashi really excelled in her natural job, a top-notch security agent. Best home security system on earth. Her two favorite security stations were at her bed at the front window and the landing on the top of the stairs from which she could monitor both floors of the house simultaneously.
The young Sashi was also a bit of a thief! She would take things from visitor’s purses, pockets or anything she could get at. She even would take tools from service men’s toolboxes. We had to secure our kitchen cabinets, to keep the thief from running off with things. She was both a challenge and so, so much fun.
In addition, she was my personal assistant. Whenever I went to my office, she would accompany me there to her spot next to my computer. As I am here now, I still feel her next to me. Even at the end when she was having a very difficult time walking, she would charge up the stairs with me. She could not be stopped.
During her first few years she developed a great friendship with Joe, our mail man at the time. He just adored her and each morning, when I was available, she would insist that I take her out to greet him. Joe would invite her into his truck and give her a treat. She was not happy when he retired.
Sashi loved the backyard. She relentlessly chased the squirls and rabbits. Loved leaping off the deck after them. She also absolutely loved laying in the sun on the deck.
In addition, she was an avid TV watcher. The big issue with that was when an animal (especially a dog) appeared on-screen “All Hell” would break lose. Sashi would charge at the TV, somehow, always blocking the remote signal so we were unable to change the channel or shut the TV off.
Sashi’s Rules for Living:
- Never run when you can leap
- Never walk when you can run
- Never sit when you can walk
- Never lie down when you can sit
- And when you do lie down, try to be in the sun if at all possible
- Never-Ever say no to a meal or treats.
